Safer Neighbourhood officers in Verwood have racked up more than 1,000 miles of cycle patrols in the area since the beginning of May 2010.
PC Andrew Robertson and PCSO Robin Morgan, of the Verwood Town Safer Neighbourhood Team, have been patrolling on their bikes, which are fitted with pedometers, in an effort to provide an easily accessible and highly visible police presence in the area.
PC Robertson said, “We’ve cycled down every road in Verwood, stopping and talking to people along the way, to ensure that residents in the town are aware of our team and how to contact us.
“We’ve also taken the opportunity to explain how they can raise any community safety priorities that they’d like the police and our partners to address.
“Ultimately, I hope our bicycle patrols have made, and will continue to make local people feel safer.”
The Verwood Safer Neighbourhood Team holds regular street corner meetings in the area. They will be at the Heritage Centre on the second Thursday of every month at 10am and at the town council offices on the fourth Thursday of every month, 10–11am.
