This is the most common cancer in men over the age of sixty, and statistics show that on average, 70 men are diagnosed everyday.
A few years ago, Verwood born Alan Sims - a retired builder and golf enthusiast, discovered he had prostate cancer - which if caught early is very survivable.
Alan is a member of Sturminster Marshall Golf Club and has recently been elevated to Course Marshall. He suggested that during 2011 the club should support the Prostate Cancer Awareness along with the Cystic Fybrosis Trust, and a number of successful events has resulted in a magnificent total of £4,612 being raised, with some more still to come.
Alan is also a skilled woodworker and has a charitable sideline of making unique and unusual walking sticks that are becoming increasingly popular with the members of the club and the Town Crying fraternity.
Alan produced a very special golf based stick, which you can see in the photograph. To purchase one of these in aid of the Prostate Cancer Awareness, please contact Alan Sims on 07717370167, or Sturminster Marshall Golf Club on 01258 858 444.
The golf club will be supporting the British Heart Foundation in 2012
