Peggy retires at 80

Eighty-year-old Margaret Mead (Peggy) started work at fourteen and has only just retired.

For the past ten years she has worked as a Care Attendant for local home care charity Pramacare.

Peggy explains, "I worked for EMI and then Nestle. In 1972 I moved to the Dorset area with my husband and followed a career in social care.  After sixty-five I kept working and then applied for a job with Pramacare when I was seventy.”

Peggy has been a faithful member of the Ferndown Night-round team. She adds, “I’ve met so many fascinating people in care work. I even used to visit someone who knew Florence Nightingale! I have an empathy with the older clients too. I never mention my age, but I suppose when I talk about the war, it gives it away!”

A surprise 80th birthday gift from Peggy’s husband means that you will see her around and about in Dorset in her red sports car (pictured).
