Personal injury solicitor David McWilliam will be hoping to avoid any scrapes himself when he takes part in next week’s New Forest triathlon.
The self-confessed serial sportsman is among an estimated 200 entrants signed up for the OneLastTri event organised by Race New Forest.
The triathlon, on Sunday October 3, involves a 1.9 km swim in Ellingham Lake, 90 km bike ride around the New Forest and, finally, a 20 km run.
“It’s going to be tough but I’m up for it,” said David, Head of Personal Injury for Dorset and New Forest law firm Ellis Jones Solicitors.
“A 56 mile bike ride and then 12 mile run with plenty of hills is going to hurt a lot. The £6 post race massage strikes me as a great investment.”
David is no stranger to physical challenges having previously taken part in the London, Bournemouth and Swanage triathlons, a 220 mile charity cycle ride and both London and New Forest marathons.
His ‘day job’ involves dealing with a variety of accident claims, including road traffic accidents, trips and slips, employers liability and, appropriately, sporting accidents.
“I’ve acted for many cyclists and triathletes during my career so I have plenty of specialist knowledge about the risks associated in training for such events. Perhaps a little too much for my own peace of mind,” he said.
The ‘OneLastTri’ begins at Ellingham Lake and finishes at Sandy Balls Holiday Centre in Godshill. The event owes its name to the fact that it is the last triathlon of the season.
