The Police Station at the Civic Centre in Poole closed its doors for the last time at midnight on 16 December.
In its place is the new Poole Police Station located in the new Joint Emergency Services Building on Wimborne Road, near Poole Stadium. It was officially opened at 8am this morning by Bournemouth and Poole Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Lynn Hart.
The new police station will be open from 7am to midnight Sunday to Thursday, and from 7am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Chief Superintendent Hart said: “I’m delighted to have opened this excellent community facility.
“The new police station is far more welcoming and accessible to members of the public than the old police station at Poole Civic Centre.
“It also provides us with improved facilities, including more cell space, for delivering operational policing in Poole.”
The new police station provides Dorset Police with an increased cell capacity of 24, compared to the 14 cells that were available at the Poole Civic Centre police station.
The new Joint Emergency Services Building is shared by Dorset Police and Dorset Fire and Rescue Service. As well as housing the new police station, the building also provides a new Community Area Command for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and office accommodation for Dorset Police staff.
The Fire Service's Director of Service Delivery, Area Manager Nick Marsden, who joined Chief Superintendent Hart in opening the new police station, said: "I was very pleased to be involved in the opening of the new police and fire community building this morning in Poole.
“This building has provided Dorset Fire and Rescue Service with a modern and efficient base to operate from which will further strengthen our close partnership working with Dorset Police and other organisations. This can only help us to work closer together to improve the safety of our communities".
The Poole Civic Centre police station is due to be put up for sale in the New Year.
