Post Office petition gathers momentum

Further delay isn’t an option

The response to the petition, pressing for a return of post office counters services to Wimborne without delay, has already had a fantastic response.

Launched last week by Wimborne’s prospective MP, Nick King, and the town’s County Councillor, Robin Cook , the petition has been placed in local shops, where customers have signed up in droves.

Nick King said:  “We estimate that the shops alone have already gathered in excess of 1,500 signatures.  That’s a brilliant response in such a short space of time.”

Street stalls were set up last Saturday in the town by local campaigners, where over 500 signatures were also collected.

The petition will run until this Saturday, 15 August.  “We’ll then be collecting the petition together and presenting it next week to East Dorset District Council.

“We’re also working with Bob Walter MP to obtain a meeting with the Post Office as a matter of urgency.  Our investigations show that it is they who are dragging their heels over providing this service.

“Wimborne’s residents and business owners have given a resounding message through the petition that further delay in restoring the service isn’t an option.”
