Dorset Wildlife Trust is inviting people to help marine wildlife by joining the next Beachwatch beach clean.
Volunteers will be clearing litter from Worbarrow Bay in the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch Big Weekend.
Emma Rance, Marine Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said, “Beach litter is not just unsightly but can prove fatal for wildlife. It can be mistaken for food and eaten by birds, blocking their digestive systems and often resulting in starvation. Balloons are particularly dangerous to turtles, who try to eat them, mistaking them for jellyfish, and wildlife can also be harmed by the large quantities of plastic, rope and twine lying on the beach.”
The Beachwatch beach clean is on Sunday 19 September from 10am to 12 noon at Worbarrow Bay. All equipment provided. For more information, contact Emma Rance on 01929 481044. For more information, see www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk
