Public Meeting to discuss Dog Control Orders

East Dorset District Council will be holding a special public meeting tonight with its Scrutiny and Policy Development Committee to discuss proposed dog control orders for certain areas of the district.

The committee will hear evidence from residents, local organisations and health experts regarding the orders and the public consultation held on them in late 2009, when over 2,000 representations were made to the council.

The proposed Orders are:
The Fouling of Land by Dogs (East Dorset) Order 2009
Allowing the council to take action against dog owners who do not clear up after their dog on open land. This will apply to the whole district, with the exception of some forestry commission land.

The Dogs on Leads (East Dorset) Order 2009
Which may apply to parts of Corfe Mullen recreation ground, Fryers Field in West Moors and King George V and parts of Ferndown
Schools' playing fields

The Dogs Exclusion (East Dorset) Order 2009
Which may cover all enclosed children's play areas, all marked sport pitches (on land which the Dogs on Leads Order will apply) and parts of Ferndown Schools' playing fields.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting but only those who have asked to speak in advance will be able to air their views. Three speakers will represent each of the communities affected. There will also be representations from six experts, including Natural England, Dorset County Council, and the Primary Care Trust along with the chairman of the East Dorset Community Partnership Environment Theme Action Group.

The meeting will be taking place at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne, starting at 7pm.
