Steve, from QE School, Wimborne in running in memory of his mum who passed away from cancer in December 2013.
Of the challenge that lies ahead of him, Steve said: “Mum was so brave during her time in hospital, which was made even more traumatic by Dad being admitted when we discovered that he was suffering from lymphoma. I have been training hard and it has been an interesting challenge but it’s nothing compared to what Mum and Dad went through. Every penny that I raise will help Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research beat blood cancers.”
Dan Solley, head of sports events at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said “It is great that Steve is running the Bournemouth half marathon and raising money for the charity. The money raised will be invested in our leading research into better treatments and cures for blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.”
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Around 30,000 people of all ages, from children and teenagers to adults are diagnosed with a blood cancer in the UK every year.
