Friars Cliff Beach in Christchurch has been given a prestigious Quality Coast Award in the ‘Resort Bathing Beach’ category for the third year running.
Quality Coast Awards, presented by Keep Britain Tidy, recognise and reward beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management.
In order to receive the award, the beach must have mandatory water quality, well-developed facilities such as toilets, first aid and disabled access, a variety of activities encouraged on the beach and dogs should be banned from all or part of the beach during the bathing season.
At Christchurch’s Council meeting, the Quality Coast plaque was presented to the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle, by Gary Foyle, the Council’s Senior Beaches and Open Spaces Officer.
The Mayor said: “This is a magnificent achievement and reflects the excellent work which is being carried out by the Council to ensure that Friars Cliff is one of the best beaches in the country. This is especially important at a time when more and more people are choosing to holiday at home.”
