West Moors man, Stanley Wood was presented with a Queen’s Medal upon retiring from voluntary service at the library in the village with the WRVS.
The library service has strong links with the WRVS, which provides volunteers to deliver books and tapes to those people at home who are unable to get to their local library.
Stanley has helped deliver books on two rounds over the last fifteen years. He said it was a privilege to visit the housebound and felt it was a very worthwhile social service, as many readers may not see anyone else at all in a week.
He worked for Shell UK oil company for the whole of his career - in latter years as a finance manager. He is a member of St Mary's Church, Ferndown, and a member of the 3rd Order of the Society of St Francis of Assisi. A busy man, Stanley has been a school governor, a prison visitor, and a volunteer with the Victim Support and also chair of West Moors Youth Club and treasurer of a Cancer UK charity shop.
The Queen’s Medal was presented by Val Everitt, Vice-Chairman of the WRVS.
