Raymond Brown nature reserve opens

Just six months after the access works to the nature reserve named after the late Raymond Brown, his widow Pola Brown formally unlocked the kissing gate to allow public access.

The reserve is located in a very sensitive area of the Avon Valley.  To preserve and protect the natural habitat for ground nesting birds in the spring and over wintering birds in the winter period,  it is only open for public access for three months each year from the 1 July.

When unlocking the gate, Pola said, “Raymond would have been so proud of this moment.  In his younger days the public had access to all of this area now protected by legislation.  I am so pleased that we have been able to re-open it, albeit for only a short period each year to all the public to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Millstream and meadows that surround it.”
