In their thousands, Dorset people were excitedly waiting to welcome Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in Weymouth today.
The royal couple arrived on schedule this morning at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, home of the Olympic 2012 sailing events.
The Queen looked gorgeous in a turquoise outfit and smiled brightly at spectators, including schoolchildren, who were frantically waving their union flags in the bright sunshine.
Following presentations and a visit into the Sailing Academy, the Queen and Prince Philip boarded a waiting yacht, which took them to the Weymouth seafront and Esplanade, where they were to walk among freshly planted flower beds and see a sand sculpture in shape of Windsor Castle.
From there, the tour proceeded to the Tank Museum at Bovington and Goldy’s Farm Shop and Energy Centre at Lytchett Matravers.
The royal visit marks a major milestone in demonstrating how Dorset has come to the fore as a destination which has embraced innovation and sustainability whilst retaining its community focus.
