Saddle up for cycling at Moors Valley Country Park

Moors Valley Country Park and Forest near Ringwood pedals into National Bike Week from 19–27 June with a range of activities for cyclists of all ages and abilities designed to promote cycling as a fun and healthy activity.

Regular weekly cycling events at Moors Valley begin on Mondays from 7 June with evening leisure rides (6.30–7.30pm) led by experienced volunteers. It’s free to take part and if you don’t have your own bike, you can hire one for only £2 per session.

A more strenuous workout is on offer on Tuesdays from 8 June (6.15–7.15pm) with Bike Fit sessions to get the blood pumping. Again, participation is free and bike hire is available. Pre-booking is essential on 01425 470721.

Bike Week begins in earnest on Saturday 19 June when you can navigate your way around Moors Valley’s 700 acres of forest and heathland on a special two-and-a-half-hour Mountain Bike Orienteering event. Starting at 10.30am, it costs £5 and offers a fun and competitive way to get on your bike.

Moors Valley’s Bike Week events reach a climax on Saturday 26 June with a mini festival of family cycling activities.

Starting at 10am cyclists can follow a free waymarked trail and pick up prizes along the way.

Dorset Police will be on hand to help to beat the bike thieves with free cycle identification marking.

If your bike is in need of a bit of TLC, Forest Leisure Cycles will provide free labour for any repairs that are needed – all you pay for are the parts!

There will also be a range of cycling-related stalls, including a special display on sustainable travel.

Young cyclists are catered for with Bikeability for Kids. Described as cycling proficiency for the 21st century, and offered by DC Leisure, it’s free to take part and runs from 10.15am – 12.15pm.

Moors Valley events are not just for experienced cyclists. Adults who may have thought their peddling days were behind them can Get Back in the Saddle from 10.30am – 12pm. An ideal way to regain confidence on a bike in beautiful surroundings, participation is free and bikes can be hired for £4.75 for the session.
