East Dorset District Council has begun its search for a new Chief Executive, following the announcement by the current post-holder of his intention to retire after 22 years.
Alan Breakwell, the current Chief Executive, retires from the position this summer. It is expected that his successor will be in post soon after, ensuring a smooth changeover.
The post will be advertised nationally from 22 January and the council aims to recruit a new Chief Executive who shares its commitment to improve, who can build on best practice and who can inspire its workforce and partners to bring out the best in them and meet future challenges.
The council is a ‘good’ 3 star authority and is part of the Dorset Pathfinder project, which aims to improve services and increase value for money for the county's residents, by working in partnership with other local authorities.
Councillor Spencer Flower, Leader of East Dorset District Council, said: “This is a very important position in the council and it is vital that we attract the best candidates.
“It is essential that the council attracts candidates with the appropriate depth of experience, strong leadership qualities and who are able to demonstrate a successful record of achievement to drive the council forward. We aim to find an exceptional Chief Executive, with the skills and talent to do the very best for the residents of East Dorset and to meet the challenges caused by the recession and in the future.”
The post is being advertised in the Sunday Times, Municipal Journal and on the council’s website www.dorsetforyou.com with a closing date for applications of 20 February 2009.
