More than 100 people attended Mudeford Wood Community Centre in Christchurch to hear about the measures being taken to protect the coastline in Christchurch and Poole Bays.
Chaired by David Harlow from Bournemouth Borough Council, the meeting featured speakers from New Forest District Council, Natural England and maritime consultants Royal Haskoning Ltd talking about the problem of climate change and how this will affect coastlines.
They also discussed the Shoreline Management Plan which covers developments in the management of changing coastlines. Its main objectives are:
1. To set out the risks of coastal flooding and erosion for Poole and Christchurch Bays and
Harbours over the next 100 years
2. To identify preferred policies for managing those risks, and the consequences of putting them
into practice
3. To inform others in order that future land use takes account of the risks.
