Budding sand castle builders are being urged to show off their skills during this year’s Bournemouth Carnival.
A full day of activities will take place on 2 August, sponsored by Sembcorp Bournemouth Water, and will include a sand building contest for under-16’s, treasure hunt and chalk drawing competition – all at Durley Chine – as well as a duck race in the Bourne Stream later in the day.
The events are among more than 30 organised for carnival week which begins on Monday August 1 and goes through to Sunday August 7, culminating in the main carnival procession and gala night.
Roger Harrington, SBW’s Managing Director, said the water company was a long-standing supporter of Bournemouth Carnival.
He added: “Bournemouth is the largest town we serve and the carnival attracts large numbers of local residents and visitors. We are pleased to be able to help in some way in making this possible.
“We wish all involved, including the organisers, participants in the events and all those who go along to see it, a very enjoyable and successful event.”
Pat Fail, President of Bournemouth Carnival Committee, said: “Carnival 2011 is already looming large on the horizon. I am still trying to steer the ship after 43 years, and if it was not for companies such as SBW, over the years, we would not have survived as a voluntary organisation.
“I would like to personally thank them for their continued generosity and hope that our association with them can last for many years to come.”
