Skaters jam in Christchurch

Twenty eight young people aged between 14 to 21 flipped, carved and grinded around the Two Riversmeet skate park during the Skatejam competition arranged by the Christchurch Council Playrangers.

Onlookers were treated to a host of spectacular moves and jumps as the competitors worked hard to impress the judges. There were some hair-raising moments as some of the inline skaters performed backward somersaults in mid-air, but luckily everyone completed the competition in one piece.

Presenting the prizes was Deputy Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle, who said: "The Playrangers arranged today's event to particularly appeal to the older end of the age range they deal with. They provide a lot of sessions for younger children throughout the year, so it was important to provide something for older young people as well.

"It was wonderful to see the spectacular moves and it's incredible what they can actually do. I'm glad we have been able to provide such a fantastic facility for them here."
