Wildlife in Christchurch Bay will be better protected from injury caused by Discarded fishing tackle, following the intervention of Christchurch council.
The special fishing bins are in place at popular fishing spots at Mudeford Quay and Friars Cliff beach. Dorset Wildlife Trust's SeaClean Project hopes to encourage anglers to help marine life in Dorset, by correctly disposing of fishing line.
Abi Meharg, Beaches & Open Spaces Officer on the Christchurch Council, said: “We hope that these bins will encourage anglers to dispose of their used fishing tackle more thoughtfully. We have seen examples of discarded tackle causing injury or death to swans and other wildlife and it is also a threat to divers and boat users.”
