Forest FM - Verwood’s Community radio station, has been short listed for ‘station of the year for Southern England with a coverage area of under 300,000 listeners’
Just three stations have been nominated for the coveted award from The Sony Radio Academy - South region.
The result will be announced at a ceremony taking place at Bournemouth University on 1 December.
Station founder Steve Saville said, “We were absolutely thrilled to discover our name was up there with larger commercial stations. The fact that we’re in the running is all down to the dedication and enthusiasm of our forty plus volunteers who make programmes and go out into the community to record events because they love doing it.
“We have presenters from just 17-years-old to presenters in their 70s. We’re a bit like a local radio 2 with great music and local information during the day and specialist music during the evenings from folk to jazz and reggae to rock ‘n’ roll.
“We’ve also been running our ‘Breakthrough’ initiative for two years which showcases talented local bands and artists.
“Even if we don’t win on the night we’re over the moon to have been recognised.”
