Strict Victorian rules return to the classroom

Talbot Heath Junior School in Bournemouth held its annual ‘Living History’ day and transported pupils back to the 19th century.

They discovered what life was like in a typical schoolroom with a strict teacher, as well as the playground games and drills that were commonplace in Victorian times.

The children dressed in Victorian costume and learned about the life of a Victorian servant, made paper dolls and sketched artefacts loaned from Bournemouth’s Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum.

Karen Leahy, Head of Junior School, described the Victorian day as a “Great success.”
