Verwood Church of England First School closed its doors on Monday until 30 June, due to a confirmed case of swine flu.
Parents collecting their children from school yesterday were given the news by headteacher, Adam Parsons.
The Year Four boy who was diagnosed with the virus had been on holiday abroad and is now fully recovered.
In a letter to parents, the school says, “The child was not symptomatic in school but there is a very low risk that they could have been infectious shortly before developing symptoms. As a precautionary measure children in Year 4 will be offered Tamiflu.”
Sam Aitkin, mother of seven year old Jack in Year 2 said, “I’m having to juggle around work a bit, but I think it’s sensible to shut the school. The After School Club can’t open either.”
The Potted Sports Day this Thursday at Verwood Cof E School has been rescheduled to 16 July because of the closure.
