Three Dorset locals are taking on the Lakeland Challenge on 11 September to raise funds for The Wooden Spoon Society.
The Challenge, which takes place in the Lake District, involves kayaking 10.5 miles across Lake Windemere, cycling 27 miles along the Wrynose Pass and climbing Scarfell Pike, which stands at 3209ft. Money raised will go towards supporting disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
The team consists of Jonathan Gollings, a 28 year old dentist from Wimborne, Shane Coughlan, a 29 year old marketing executive from Parkstone, and Tom Hitchcock, a 28 year old marketing executive from Poole Quay. They have called their team ‘Inspired by Life’ following the recent births of Jonathan’s daughter and Shane’s son.
Team member Jonathan Gollings from Whitehall House Dental Practice, says, “The challenge is nicknamed the ‘Longest, Steepest, Highest’ and it is a physically gruelling all day event. We have been training in the local area by kayaking around Brownsea, running up and down the beach promenades and chines, and cycling the Jurassic coastline. It isn’t hard to be ‘Inspired by Life’ and keep up the training when you live in such a beautiful area.”
As the countdown begins the team are hoping to raise £4000 for the charity so if you are inspired by their story please donate at www.justgiving.com/Inspired-ByLife.
