The Dorset town of Wimborne Minster has just undergone a hectic week for all those involved with Wimborne in Bloom.
To kick off, over sixty 'Wombles’ turned out to litter pick the town ahead of the judging.
The local Wimborne in Bloom Competition was also held. Chairman of Wimborne in Bloom, Anthony Oliver said, “We had 101 entries across seventeen different categories. They were judged by local organisations. The results will be announced shortly.”
In the same week, the town was judged in the Regional South and South East in Bloom Competition, Small Town Category. Two judges, Brian Stephens and John Lockwood spent two hours scrutinizing the town.
Anthony Oliver added, “They gave nothing away. We shall not know how we have done until the results are announced in early September. What is for sure is that we could not have done any more. Committee member John Hare-Brown and his team of helpers spent many hours in the lead up to judging weeding pavements and making sure there was no litter around including the ever menacing cigarette butts. Everywhere looked spic and span. It is just so frustrating that the public at large cannot use the litter bins provided.”
A Cream Tea afternoon rounded off the week and raised £261 for Wimborne in Bloom's annual planting programme.
The next fund-raising event is the annual Duck Race which is sure to make everyone go quackers. It will he be held on Saturday, 27 August.
