Ferndown Upper School textiles students, in conjunction with Ferndown Town Council and Art4All, have designed a new focal point in Ferndown.
Ten Tibetan prayer flags have been placed in and around Millennium Park and Cherry Grove to mark the middle of the Tibetan New Year.
Traditional Tibetan prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The belief is that as wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement, the flags will fray and deconstruct and cause the air to be purified and sanctified. The students experimented to achieve the lightness, translucency, and characteristic fraying to spread good will and compassion into all pervading space.
After Ferndown receives this very welcome benefit, the banners will be replaced by more conventional designs produced by middle school students to support their autumn term project work.
