Trickey Warren Trek supports air ambulance

An old Second World War fighter airfield is to be used this autumn for a major fund-raising event to help keep a very modern aircraft flying.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance hopes to raise thousands of pounds from its Trickey Warren Trek, which is being held on the former RAF Culmhead aerodrome, on the Blackdown Hills.

The event on Sunday 20 September features four different sponsored runs, making it accessible for people of all ages and capabilities to take part. Funds raised by the runners will help to meet the costs of the charity’s Eurocopter EC135 helicopter, which so far this year has been called to more than 450 emergencies across the two counties.

The multi-terrain Trickey Warren Trek has a 2K fun run suitable for all the family to enter, a 4K run for individuals and for teams, and a challenging 10K course for more serious runners which is being held under the rules of UK Athletics. Entrants can run, jog, or even walk the various events, which take place over forest trails and uneven ground along the edges of the Blackdown Hills plateau.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance charity manager Charlotte Routley said: “We are already getting lots of interest from families and friends living all over Dorset and Somerset who want to take part in the Trickey Warren Trek. We hope they will enjoy themselves and have a fun day out as well as helping us to raise much-needed funds for our charity.”
