On 1 July, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth became known as a University College.
It remains one of the most successful and popular higher education specialists, with an excellent national and international reputation, committed to providing the highest quality, industry-relevant creative degrees.
It now offers over twenty degrees in art, design, media and performance, as well as a range of short courses, a unique postgraduate programme, and bespoke services to business.
The University College, now in its 125th year, has undergone a number of transformations and title changes throughout its history. Originally the Bournemouth Municipal School of Art, it has since been titled the Poole School of Art, the Southern College of Art, the Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design; and latterly the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Its Alumni include Turner prize winner, Wolfgang Tillmans; Oscar winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy; and fashion photographer Nick Knight.
Frances Naylor, head of marketing and communications, led the re-branding project and commented: “The re-brand was primarily based upon utilising our new title of University College. Our visual identity had grown somewhat organically over the years but we now wanted to take a more considered approach to our look, developing a true brand and style which could be used across all our activities and communications.
“Re-branding of a specialist HEI offers an interesting and unique design proposition. This new logo gives us a distinctive look with which to brand the University College. It is a contemporary piece of design, relevant to its wide audience and to its status as a specialist Higher Education Institution. It has also been designed with a view to our aspiration to become a full University in the not-too-distant future.”
