Under the sea photography

Dorset Wildlife trust have announced the winners of the Dorset Seasearch Underwater Photograhy competition, which was launched to find the images that tell us the most about little-known species or habitats.

The winning photograph was taken by regular volunteer Seasearcher Nick Owen, whose photo of a solitary hydroid won him a free weekend’s diving.

The runners-up were: Jane Szekely, with a colourful photo of the seabed in Weymouth Bay, Mike Markey, with a photo of a rare sponge Axinella dissimilis among other sponges and hydroids at Mupe Rocks, and Richard Yorke, whose striking image shows a conger eel, goby and a prawn all together in a rocky reef in Poole Bay.
