Verwood put on one of its best displays of the season on Good Friday. It was a contest between one of the youngest clubs in the Union against one of the oldest and the second consecutive year that ‘young’ Verwood entertained the ‘old boys.’ But Old Freemen’s have been visiting Dorset at Easter for over thirty years.
Many of the original ‘old boys’ arrived with their children and grandchildren for a fun-filled weekend and friendly matches.
Such was the appeal of this match that a number of Verwood lads returned from university and a couple of older men dug out their boots for a few minutes on the park.
The game was an open affair played in good spirit and demonstrated just how entertaining an end to end match could be.
Verwood managed several excellent team tries and outscored the visitors by four to two.
The Albion Inn hosted the after match activities including rugby’s version of the “boat race.”
