For the second consecutive year Verwood RUFC will be entertaining one of the UK’s oldest rugby clubs, Old Freemen’s, on Good Friday 2 April as part of their annual tour to this area.
The match is fast becoming a regular series of dates between the two sides who have established friendly home and away fixtures at both the opening (hosted by Old Freemen’s) and the conclusion respectively of the rugby season. It is truly an “old meets new” meeting between the very much older established club from Ashtead in Surrey and the relative new boys of the English Rugby Union, Verwood, who have only been in existence since 1995.
The match kicks off at Potterne Park at 3.00pm on Friday 2 April and if last year’s very close and exciting game is anything to go by Old Freemen’s ran out winners 15-19 in the final minutes, another great afternoon’s entertainment is in prospect followed by rugby’s traditional bon homi in the clubhouse with bar supplied by Verwood Community Association and after at The Albion Inn in Verwood who provide the food for both clubs.
