Verwood’s new mayor

Councillor Michael Dolan, was elected unanimously as the Mayor of Verwood at last night’s annual council meeting.  His deputy is Councillor Jean Hazel and his wife Judith will accompany him on official duties as mayoress.

On acceptance, Michael paid tribute to the outgoing mayor, Lucy Clarke, saying she had completed an exemplary year and was a most gracious mayor.  He added, “I’m not part of any group or faction, but what excites me is the fraternity of a community.  Verwood and Three Legged Cross is a rich community with a heritage, skills, talents and resources and I promise you I will do the best I can to be a good advocate and good steward for the benefit of Verwood.”

His two charities are Verwood Stroke Club and MIND.

Michael presented Lucy with a past mayor’s medal and prior to standing down, she presented two cheques each for £600 to her chosen charities: Age Concern Verwood and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and thanked everyone for their support.
