A new building scheme at Cherry Tree Nursery, Northbourne, was given a financial boost thanks to Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water (BWHW).
The award winning plant nursery celebrated its 20th birthday recently, and to mark the special occasion, launched a £550,000 building project to aid its charity work. BWHW presented a check for £250 to the scheme, and promises to donate a further £500 in the future.
The registered charity, which provides sheltered work for adults with mental illness, plans to replace its current old and run-down accommodation with sustainable, low-energy buildings made from locally sourced natural materials. It has divided the building scheme into three phases and is already more than halfway towards its initial £245,000 fundraising target. The money will pay for a tearoom for the volunteers, a kitchen, utility room and toilet block.
BWHW’s Managing Director Roger Harrington said, “Cherry Tree Nursery provides a very important service for the good of the local community. We are pleased to be able to support this work in a limited way and wish them every success in continuing to raise money for badly needed new facilities.”
