6 June 2009 West Moors Memorial Hall 9.30am-12.30pm
West Moors’ residents are getting another chance to get rid of small furniture and bric-a-brac they no longer need by dropping them off at the Memorial Hall from 8.30am-11.30 on 6 June.
The Give or Take community waste exchange event not only gives residents the chance to offload items they no longer require, but they can pick up anything they fancy for free. People who have nothing to give, can also browse and take items away.
The day, organised by East Dorset District Council is an opportunity to reduce waste by reusing household items instead of throwing them out.
Books, toys, clothes, tools, bric-a-brac, kitchenware, small furniture, jewellery, ornaments, bikes and bike parts, and plants are welcome, but electrical items and duvets cannot be accepted.
The event is also designed to offer advice on all aspects of reducing waste and energy use, with those attending also having the opportunity to collect free energy saving light bulbs from the Dorset Energy Advice Centre.
There will be stands featuring East Dorset's Benefits Team, Fire Service, Wayfinder and your local WRAP Home Composting Advisor. Representatives from East Dorset District Council's Waste Recycling Team will also be on hand with information on your local recycling schemes, stopping junk mail, reusable nappies and other ways to reduce your waste.
Gemma Coles, East Dorset District Council's Waste Reduction Manager said: 'We throw away far too many items that could be reused or recycled, which means that our landfill sites are nearly at capacity. The previous events have managed to save over seven tonnes of waste from ending up in landfill. Why not come along and see what takes your fancy?'
The event takes place at West Moors Memorial Hall, Station Road and runs from 9.30am to 12.30 pm, however, items may be dropped off between 8.30am and 11.30am. Dealers and traders will not be admitted.
