Wildlife gets given an extra lifeline

Sick, injured and orphaned animals have been given an extra lifeline thanks to Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water.

Dorset Wildlife Rescue have received a generous donation of one of BWHW’s former vans which is now being used as an ambulance for wild mammals and birds of prey across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Roger Harrington, BWHW’s Managing Director, said, “Dorset Wildlife Rescue is a volunteer driven local organisation which does a huge amount of good work in the community. It relies on people who give up their own time for this good cause and for support from the public.

“We are very pleased to be able to help in a small way by donating a van which is essential to their operation. Hopefully, it will help to enable them to continue rescuing distressed or injured animals for some time into the future.”

Nick Ridge, who co-founded DWR with his wife, Sandi, described BWHW’s donation as ‘very generous.’

He added, “A wildlife ambulance is probably our most vital piece of equipment and means we can respond to reports of injured and orphaned animals in the most professional way possible.

“We are extremely grateful to Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water for its truly kind donation. This ambulance has been called into use dozens of times already and it will be seen on Dorset's roads everyday."

DWR is a purely volunteer based organisation which relies entirely on public support. It rescues, treats and rehabilitates all wild mammals including badgers, foxes, hedgehogs and bats. DWR also rescues birds of prey including all species of owls and birds such as buzzards and kestrals.
