Wimborne Mayor’s goodwill gesture goes a long way

Vicky Oddie and her grandmother were having lunch outside Cloisters and enjoying the clement weather in Wimborne when the Mayor of Wimborne, Councillor Robin Cook and his wife walked passed after selling their St George's Day roses.

Vicky said, “We asked them if they had any over because normally my grandmother would walk into town to buy her own, but due to ill heath had been unable to do so this year.”

The mayor apologised because he had none left and after talking for a while, he and his wife went on their way.

Within a few minutes, Vicky saw the mayor returning with a beautifully wrapped single red rose and he presented it to her grandmother, with his compliments.

Vicky said, “She was absolutely thrilled, and I am sure slightly flattered. The reason this gesture was so special is that on St George’s Day some years ago, I lost my grandfather and my grandmother lost her soul-mate and this generosity of nature has given my grandmother something good to think of on St George’s Day instead of something bad.

“I would love to thank the mayor and his wife for making this happen and to let Wimborne know that if this is anything to go by, Wimborne has made a great move by electing somebody with a such a large heart.”
