With spectacular coastline views from Bournemouth’s East Cliff, this dramatic Victorian villa is filled with outstanding paintings and sculptures from around the world. A unique survivor from Bournemouth’s Victorian heyday, it was home to Annie and Merton Russell-Cotes, and stands testimony to their passions. As travellers and collectors, they created beautiful galleries to showcase their collections of art and artefacts gathered on their travels.
Dr Beth Steiner, fundraising officer at the Russell-Cotes said, “We hope local people will come and enjoy this Victorian treasure right on their doorstep all year round, by taking advantage of this special discount on annual entry. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience the house, our current exhibitions, and the gardens in this fabulous setting”.
The current major exhibition is ‘Refracted: Collection Highlights’, marking the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality, and is co-curated with members of the local LGBT+ community. It takes inspiration from the colours of the rainbow flag and the themes it represents. Also open now and throughout the summer is ‘Facets: 30 Glass Bowls by Rebecca Newnham’; an exhibition of 30 beautiful glass bowls created by this renowned sculptor.
