The £185,000 National Lottery money, awarded jointly by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund, will allow the council to develop a second round bid for up to £1.9 million to deliver their Discovery Project.
The project would see further improvements to the country park including vital repair work to infrastructure, the introduction of volunteer facilities, and a welcome centre, which will allow visitors to learn about the rich and varied heritage of the Country Park. You can find out more about the Discovery project at: http://www.uptoncountrypark.com/discovery.html
The project will also re-create the historical pleasure grounds by reinstating historical pathways to link Upton House to the wider grounds and opening up three vistas that have been lost over time, to provide views down to the shoreline and Holes Bay Nature Park.
Interpretation and a wide-reaching activity programme are also planned, should the second bid be successful.
Cllr John Rampton, cabinet portfolio holder for the environment, Borough of Poole said, “We are extremely grateful to everybody who has supported the Discovery Project through questionnaires, events and especially volunteering and we would encourage the local community to continue their involvement as the project continues to develop. A successful round one result is a great step forward in our plans to secure vital funding for Upton Country Park.
