Mayor of Poole celebrates Lilliput Sea Scouts' success

The Mayor of Poole has congratulated Lilliput Sea Scouts' swimming team who have been awarded a prestigious first place in the 2018 Royal Navy national Sea Scouts swimming championships held at HMS Raleigh Plymouth.

The annual event attracts over 200 Royal Navy Sea Scouts, leaders and Explorer Sea Scouts from 25 groups around the UK.

Held over a weekend, the teams compete in a variety of races including individual breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle races as well as team medley relays.

The Lilliput Sea Scouts team came away with a hoard of trophies, and gold and silver awards after achieving the following results:

  • Winners of the overall competition, the Sea Scout Otter Team Shield
  • 1st place under 14 Silver Salver award
  • 2nd place under 12 team award
  • 1st place in the whole Squadron relay
  • Various individual stroke finalist and medley relay winners in the different swimming strokes.

The Lilliput Gulliver Explorer team also took part in the event and were successful in the following:

  • 3rd place in the Explorer Trophy
  • 3rd place in the whole Squadron relay
  • 2nd place in the lifesaving team race

The whole team were invited to meet Poole’s Mayor, Councillor Sean Gabriel in his parlour where he spoke to the sea scout members about their recent triumph and congratulated them on their outstanding results.

Cllr Sean Gabriel said, “It was a real pleasure to meet Lilliput Sea Scouts and congratulate them on their fantastic achievement at the Royal Navy national Sea Scouts swimming championships. They should feel very proud of their results and their well-earned success.”

Simon Inge, Lilliput’s Group Scout Leader, said: “We are so proud of the team and it’s great that they represented the group from Poole at a very tough national swimming event.”
