The winners of the Young Environmentalist Challenge Competition will have their entries displayed at Haskin’s Garden Centre in Ferndown soon after the award ceremony on 15 June.

Designed to engage young people and make them aware of environmental issues, the competition was organised by the Rotary Club of Ferndown and over 125 pupils from local Dorset schools have entered.

“I’m delighted with the level of interest shown by the youngsters who have entered with some exceptional ideas and who clearly care for wildlife and the environment in which we live,” said Rotary Club organiser Gerry Clarke.  “We look forward to meeting many of them at the award ceremony.”

The competition has been sponsored and supported by Sembcorp Bournemouth Water, Eco Sustainable Solutions and the Ferndown Haskins Garden Centre.

Simon Morris, general manager at Haskins, who was given a preview of some of the entries said, “Ferndown Rotary’s challenge to the schools has certainly generated some well thought out ideas, which will be appreciated by all who have the opportunity to view them.”

The display will be on view in the Cedar Room within Haskins’ restaurant at Longham for a week from 17 June.
